Lutcher, LA—June 12, 2014

The St. James Parish Elderly Program and St. James Parish Hospital teamed up for another successful Senior Picnic and Health Fair on June 12th.

This year’s Senior Picnic and Health Fair attracted nearly 200 attendees from parish-wide community centers. Lutcher Park was filled with seniors who took advantage of free screenings, health education, a delicious lunch and an assortment of goodies provided by the 20 vendors who came to show support and offer information. St. James Parish Hospital provided free blood pressure screenings, cholesterol screenings, bone density screenings and grip strength tests.

In addition to screenings and health-related treats, Mosaic, the Baton Rouge Food Bank and the parish worked to together to stock the pantry of each attendee. A free bag of groceries and a hen were donated for each senior’s household.

Both the St. James Parish Elderly Program and St. James Parish Hospital would like to thank all participants and vendors. Healthcare-related vendors included: Baton Rouge Cardiology Services; Cancer Services; LA State Office of Elderly Affairs; People’s Health; Mosaic; MMO Behavioral Health Systems; Southern Eye Bank; Beacon Behavioral Health; Child Advocacy Services; American Red Cross; Interim Healthcare; Jefferson Council on Aging; LA SHIIP; Office of Consumer Advocacy; LA Medicaid’s Medicare Savings Program; Vacherie Personal Care; Christian Home Health Care; Dr. Greg S. Philips; Chateau St. James, the Baton Rouge Food Bank and Cliff Nickens Live Entertainment.
