| | St. James Parish Hospital opened its doors in May 1955 as a community hospital and continues its commitment to the community through its mission:
St. James Parish Hospital is committed to provide quality, excellent, and compassionate healthcare to our community.

Since 1955, St. James Parish Hospital has been accredited by the State of Louisiana. In 1993, we received our first Joint Commission Accreditation of Hospitals. In August, 2001, St. James Parish Hospital converted to a Critical Access Hospital (CAH). The Balanced Budget Act of 1997 incorporated legislation that created Rural Hospital Flexibility Programs. Designed to combine potentially improved reimbursement with cost savings from relaxed operating requirements, the CAH helps ensure financial viability for rural hospitals. The CAH program offers a new option to the rural communities working to ensure adequate access to high-quality health services for our community.
As a critical access, non-profit hospital, our 20-bed acute care medical-surgical facility offers an extensive range of inpatient and outpatient services for adults and children. While comparable in scope of services to larger facilities, the hospital’s smaller size allows the physicians and staff to provide personalized, quality medical services in a cost-effective manner. The physicians and hospital staff share the mission and vision:
We want our patients and their families to feel confident in the staff’s ability to provide professional care, while assuring that their rights as individuals are respected. “Large enough to serve, small enough to care” is more than a slogan at St. James Parish Hospital. From the 24-hour emergency room to the surgical suites and the state-of-the-art laboratory and radiology departments, the hospital delivers emergency and routine medical care by highly-trained physicians, nurses and allied health professionals using the latest technology. | |
