St. James Parish Hospital Recognized by the American Hospital Association as a Center of Innovation
St. James Parish Hospital was recently recognized by the American Hospital Association (AHA) as a Center of Innovation for its telestroke technology.
The American Hospital Association sends an email newsletter, AHA News Now, to hospital CEO’s from around the country. In each newsletter, one hospital is highlighted for its cutting-edge technology or groundbreaking processes in a special section entitled, “Centers of Innovation.” In a November newsletter, St. James Parish Hospital was featured with the summary, “St. James Parish Hospital in Lutcher, Louisiana utilizes a “Telestoke” program that involves state-of-the-art equipment allowing a neurologist on staff at Ochsner Medical Center to evaluate a patient remotely and work with staff in the hospital to recommend on-the-spot treatments.” This summary then lead to a link on AHA’s national website with more information.
Mary Ellen Pratt, CEO at St. James Parish Hospital, was not the first person to notice this small hospital’s huge accomplishment. “I received a call from Rebecca Bradley, Director of Rural Health Programs at the Louisiana Hospital Association, who wanted to congratulate our hospital for being recognized by the AHA as a Center of Innovation for our telestroke service. It was a pleasant surprise!” said Pratt.
Leaders at St. James Parish Hospital constantly work to bring the latest technology to the community offering patients better care, conveniently close to home. In addition to a telestroke program, the hospital has state-of-the-art imaging services such as MRI and most recently, digital mammography to add to their repertoire of offerings.
