Therapy Receptionist

Job Description:

St. James Parish Hospital is now seeking a Therapy Receptionist who will be responsible for providing clerical support and carrying out activities as directed by the Program Director and/or Therapy Manager in a professional, friendly and ethical manner.

Candidates must have secretarial experience, the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently and strong organizational skills. Previous experience working with computers is also required. Experience with insurance eligibility/collections is preferred.

The Therapy Receptionist will be part of the therapy team and, thus, required to contribute to program development, quality improvement and problem solving.

The Therapy Receptionist will be accountable for carrying out the following responsibilities and additional duties as required:

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Receive, document, and properly follow through on all referrals in a timely manner
  • Greet patients/customers in polite, prompt, helpful manner
  • Follow guidelines of intake/registration process
  • Schedule appointments and communicate with appropriate parties in a timely manner
  • Call new evaluations 24 hours prior to scheduled appointment (outpatient therapy only)
  • Answer telephones, direct calls appropriately, take messages in a timely manner
  • Collect payments, co-payments, account balances and charge patients at the time of service
  • Reconcile daily deposits, control petty cash account and reconcile daily activity report
  • Assemble medical records for new patients
  • Enter data taken from admission forms into the computer system on a timely basis
  • Confirm physician orders, medical necessity, proper authorization or notification to ensure payment for services
  • Document authorization, notification and benefit information on patient accounts
  • Assist Therapy Manager with Revenue Cycle registration, coding and billing issues

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to respond to events regarding Life Safety, Security, Hazardous Materials, Fire Safety, Medical Equipment, Utilities, Infection Control and Emergency Preparedness. Attends and participates in safety/emergency
      activities as assigned.
