St. James Parish Hospital has been recognized as a recipient of the 2024 Safety Star Award by the Louisiana Hospital Association Trust Funds (LHA Trust Funds) for successfully reducing catheter utilization in 2024.
The Safety Star award is a prestigious honor that recognizes healthcare facilities and physician office practices for successfully introducing new processes or innovative solutions to improve patient safety. Each year, the LHA Trust Funds recognizes three outstanding healthcare facilities with a Safety Star Award, St. James Parish Hospital being recognized this year.
Through a comprehensive approach that included nurse-driven protocols, provider collaboration, thorough reviews and observations, staff training, and the adoption of less invasive alternatives, the hospital successfully achieved its goal throughout this year. The project’s success has also influenced broader improvements, including innovative practices in the Emergency Department.
“I am proud of the success of this project, which highlights our daily focus on upholding the highest standards of care,” Chief Quality Officer Brittnay Bourgeois said. “We continuously strive to advance patient quality and safety, and this achievement is yet another example of our ongoing commitment to these core values.”
