Beginning in August, parish native Dr. Taylor Roussel, MD, will return home to begin providing Internal Medicine services at St. James Parish Hospital.
Dr. Roussel’s education stayed rooted in Louisiana. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from Louisiana State University in 2017, followed by her medical degree from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in 2021. She completed her Internal Medicine residency in 2024 at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge through the LSU Internal Medicine Program, where she was later selected as one of only three Chief Residents.
When asked why she chose to focus on internal medicine, Taylor explains how she was drawn to helping adults manage their overall health and long-term conditions. “… it allows me to provide comprehensive medical care to patients as well as develop long-term physician-patient relationships. I also love the challenge of diagnosing and managing complex medical conditions.” Internal medicine is comprehensive care for adults that focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating chronic illnesses.
St. James Parish Hospital is thrilled to have Taylor join the team and bring her expertise to help fulfill SJPH’s mission to enhancing the health and wellbeing for all. Jennifer Rodrigue, Physician Clinic and Urgent Care Manager, shares, “Having a local physician return to our area is meaningful – it brings a strong understanding of the community needs and a personal connection to healthcare by serving neighbors, friends, and family with familiarity and trust”.
Dr. Roussel will begin seeing patients August 4, 2025, in Suite 1400 of the David Reynaud Medical Plaza, located next door to the hospital. To schedule an appointment, call 225.869.3493, visit www.sjph.org, or use your patient portal app.
