Lutcher, LA—July 31, 2025— St. James Parish Hospital is now offering calcium scoring, also known as a heart scan, to help detect the early signs of heart disease. A calcium score is a quick, non-invasive test that measures calcium buildup in the arteries of the heart
Heart disease can develop silently over time, often without symptoms. This test helps identify at-risk individuals early so they and their healthcare providers can take proactive steps toward prevention and treatment.
Calcium scoring is recommended for adults over age 40 who are at increased risk for heart disease but do not have symptoms. Individuals with any of the following risk factors should consider a heart scan:
- Family history of heart disease
- Smoking
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Diabetes
- Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25 or higher
- Those with a sedentary or inactive lifestyle
Calcium scoring will be available Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 4:00pm. A physician referral is required. This is a cash-based test, priced at $100, due upon registration. It is recommended to avoid caffeine for twelve hours and smoking for four hours prior to your calcium score test. Those interested in a calcium score can contact 225.258.5953 for more information.
