At St James Parish Hospital, we offer skilled rehabilitation via our Swing Bed Program. It is short-term, inpatient care designed to help individuals recover from illness, injury, or surgery with the goal of returning to their prior level of independence. In short, it’s a bridge between a hospital stay and returning home.
Our Core Team consists of Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Physicians, Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacists, Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy Practitioners, a Case Manager, and a Social Worker, with other services easily accessible.

Skilled Services available can include:
- Daily Physical, Occupational, &/or Speech Rehabilitation (Except Sundays)
- Wound Care / Wound Vacs / Debridement
- IV Treatments (Antibiotics, Hydration, etc.)
- Cardio-Pulmonary Care
- Pain Management
- Education & Training for Patient / Families
Admission Eligibility:
- Medicare Part A, Some Medicare Advantage Plans, & some Commercial Plans (Ex: Humana Gold PPO, Peoples Health, Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare)
- Three Consecutive Midnights in a Hospital within a 30-Day Period (Medicare Only – Other Plans DO NOT Require a Hospital Stay)
- Reasonable / Necessary Services That Are Ordered by a Physician
- Skilled Services Performed Daily (Exceptions May Apply)
