Innovative Care with a Personal Touch

At St. James Parish Hospital, we are committed to delivering exceptional, patient-focused care at every step of the healing journey. Our 25-bed Acute Care Department provides a full spectrum of services, ensuring smooth transitions between levels of care. This coordinated approach allows patients to focus on healing, while families can rest assured their loved ones are in capable, caring hands.

We offer a range of services that combine clinical expertise with compassionate, family-like support. In addition to traditional acute care, our Skilled Rehab/Swing Bed Services help patients who need additional time and therapy before safely returning home.

To better serve patients with more complex needs, we introduced our Progressive Care Unit in 2012. Equipped with advanced monitoring technology, this unit supports those who require a higher level of medical attention.

In 2024, we elevated the patient experience even further by adding Careboards in every room within both the Acute and Progressive Care Units. These interactive displays keep patients informed with real-time updates to their care plans and enable virtual visits with consulting providers and loved ones, fostering better communication and connection during their stay.

Our dedicated team includes highly skilled nurses, a supportive care staff, and a collaborative medical team featuring a Nurse Practitioner and a Hospitalist, a physician who specializes in inpatient care. Together, they provide personalized, expert care aimed at helping each patient achieve a safe, smooth, and speedy recovery.

Proud to Be an Age-Friendly Health System

St James Parish Hospital was one of the first in the nation to adopt the Age Friendly Health System Framework, bringing the latest best practices in care designed for older adults.

What does this mean for you as the patient?

  • Care Personalized for Your Needs: We listen to your health goals, values, and what matters most to you!
  • Safer and Smarter: We review medications and try to avoid side effects and interactions that can be more common in older adults.
  • Focus on your Brain Health: We screen for issues like memory loss, confusion, or depression so they can be addressed early.
  • Designed to Keep You Moving: We support your mobility to help you stay active and reduce your fall risks.

Supporting Your Recovery Beyond the Hospital

At St. James Parish Hospital, our care doesn’t end when you leave our facility. We are committed to helping you and your loved ones navigate the transition from hospital to home with confidence and clarity.

Our interdisciplinary team; including nurses, a case manager, a social worker, a pharmacist, a physician, and a nurse practitioner, works closely together to ensure patients and their families are fully prepared for every next step. From medication instructions to follow-up appointments, we take the time to explain every detail, because informed patients are empowered to heal successfully.

Our goal is to prevent unnecessary readmissions by equipping you with the knowledge and tools needed for a smooth recovery.

Steps to Take After Discharge

To continue your healing journey safely, follow these important guidelines:

  • Ask questions about your condition and hospital stay
Make sure you understand your diagnosis and the care you received.
  • Ask about your medications
Know what each medication is for, how to take it, and what side effects to watch for.
  • Complete all recommended follow-up care
Attend doctor’s appointments, therapy sessions, and any lab work as scheduled.
  • Know how to contact your care team
Ask your nurse or case manager how to reach support if you have questions or concerns after you leave the hospital.

We’re Here for You

If you have questions before or after your discharge, don’t hesitate to speak with your care team. Your health, safety, and peace of mind are our top priorities, every step of the way.
