St. James Parish Hospital’s education team hosts puberty classes to discuss growth and development changes that occur during puberty. Classes are held in a relaxed, clinical setting. The Girls’ Puberty Class is taught by female instructors. Participants must be accompanied by a parent or other significant adult.
The class fee is $10 and due on the evening of the class. Exact cash or checks written to St. James Parish Hospital only.

St. James Parish Hospital is partnering with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and Louisiana Emergency Response Network (LERN) to host an Emergency Response Class for the public teaching nonclinical community members what to do in the event of a life-threatening emergency while waiting for EMS to arrive.
The class is FREE and will be held in the Medical Plaza Community Education Room on Friday, April 22nd from 8am to 12pm.
First on the Scene (FOTS) was developed by NAEMT and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). Through lesson presentations and hands-on skill stations, participants will learn how to access help in the event of a life-threatening emergency and what to do until EMS arrives.
This course covers:
- Activating the 911 system
- Hands-only CPR and AED
- Administering naloxone
- Administering epinephrine
- Responding to life-threatening bleeding
- Penetrating chest trauma
- Moving patients to safety
- Positioning injured patients
