Class Information

Registration and Payment Info

If a class or event requires registration, a form will be available from the event on the hospital’s online calendar. If you have questions or wish to schedule by phone, call 225.258.2009.

Payments for classes are due on the day of the class and can be paid to the hospital cashier located in the main entrance of the hospital. Students currently enrolled in college must bring a valid student ID to qualify for the student rate.

Unless otherwise noted, all CPR and First Aid classes will be held in the Community Education Room at David Reynaud Medical Plaza which is located next to St. James Parish Hospital. The Meeting Room is in the Hospital.

Group CPR Classes for Industries and Businesses

St. James Parish Hospital also offers group classes. Certification is through the American Heart Association. To plan a class for your organization or for more information, call 225.258.2009 or email us at communityed@sjph.org. 

Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) 1st Time Course – $75/Attendee ($50/Student)

This course is designed for healthcare providers who have never been certified in Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support CPR. Participants who need this 1st time course, email communityed@sjph.org or call 225.258.2009. The Healthcare Provider course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages. This class is for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings including both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. This class is held in the Medical Plaza Community Education Room. Students currently enrolled in college must bring student identification in order to qualify for the student rate. Certification is through the American Heart Association.

Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) Recertification – $60/Attendee ($50/Student with school ID)

This course is a re-certification course for participants needing to renew their CPR certification. The Healthcare Provider course is designed to teach the skills of CPR for victims of all ages. This class is for participants who provide healthcare to patients in a wide variety of settings including both in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. This class is held in the Medical Plaza Community Education Room. Students currently enrolled in college must bring student identification in order to qualify for the student rate. Certification is through the American Heart Association.

Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) Blended Learning – $30/Attendee ($25/Student with school ID)

You can also obtain a BLS certification by completing a 2-part course. A card will be issued upon completion of Part 1 and Part 2 as outlined below.

Part 1: Complete the cognitive portion through the American Heart Association. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate and can schedule your skills-check off by emailing communityed@sjph.org.

Part 2: Complete a skills check-off with an AHA-approved instructor at St. James Parish Hospital. On your scheduled date and time, bring the copy of your online certificate and a payment. The skills check-off is $30 for attendees and $25 for students with a valid school ID.

Heartsaver CPR/First Aid – $75/Attendee (Heartsaver CPR only $60/Attendee)

The Heartsaver CPR/First Aid Course is a course that teaches lay rescuers how to recognize and treat life-threatening emergencies including cardiac arrest and choking for adult, child, and infant victims. The First Aid Class teaches basic first aid procedures for medical emergencies and environmental emergencies. This class is held in the Medical Plaza Community Education Room. Certification is through the American Heart Association.

The minimum age to attend this course is 14 and any student under 16 must be enrolled with a paid adult.

Diabetic Support Group – FREE

This FREE educational program is open to anyone who has diabetes or has a family member with diabetes. This support group is designed for all diabetics, whether newly diagnosed or long-term.  The hospital’s diabetic support group meets at 2:00 pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month in the Hospital Meeting Room. A diabetic snack is served at each meeting.

Safe-Sitter Class – $50/Attendee

Safe-Sitter is a medically accurate, hands-on two-day class that teaches boys and girls in grades 6 – 8 how to handle emergencies when caring for children. Classes cover basic first-aid and CPR for infants and children in addition to offering information about childcare and running a safe business. This class is held in the Medical Plaza Community Education Room. Safe-Sitter Classes are typically scheduled during the summer months.

Puberty Class – $10/Attendee

Boys’ and Girls’ Puberty Classes are held separately. The Boys’ Puberty Class is a Father and Son class for boys ages 10-14. The Girls’ Puberty Class is a Mother and Daughter class for girls ages 9-13.

Puberty Classes offer instruction on growth and development changes during early adolescence.  It is a wonderful opportunity to get the facts in a clinical environment. Boys’ classes are held in the Hospital Meeting Room and Girls’ classes are held in the Medical Plaza Community Education Room. Puberty Classes are typically scheduled in the spring and fall.
