St. James Parish Hospital is a 25-bed, critical access hospital. Each of our rooms offer a private suite for patients. Five of these rooms, located in our Progressive Care Unit, have the technology and design necessary to accommodate higher acuity patients.
Each room is designed to provide you with a pleasant, safe and healthy environment during your stay. Controls for calling your nurse are nearby, easy to reach and all patient bathrooms have emergency call buttons. The white board in patient rooms offer important numbers and information about your plan of care.
You will be given a folder upon admit which will provide you with valuable information about your patient rights and responsibilities, information about what you can expect during your care and information about accommodations that can help both you and your visitors.

We welcome your feedback and encourage you to SpeakUP if you have any questions or concerns in regard to your care. As an inpatient, you can express concerns and ask questions to your nurse at any time. We also welcome open communication during Care Planning Meetings we host with you, family members, physicians and caregivers.
Inpatients will be mailed a survey from an independence company upon discharge. ER patients will receive a survey from our third party vendor through mail, email or text and all other patients can leave feedback through our 24/7 Feedback on Demand Form.
St. James Parish Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission (TJC) on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations-an independent, not-for-profit, national body that oversees the safety and quality of health care and other services. If any person has concerns about patient care or safety in the hospital that was not addressed while visiting, please notify Hospital Administration at 225.258.5990.
The Joint Commission encourages you to first bring your complaint regarding patient care or safety to the attention of hospital leaders.

Housekeeping & Food Services
Our team cleans and sanitizes your room daily. For additional or immediate housekeeping needs, call extension 2925.
We will deliver your meals at 7:30am, 11:30am and 5:30pm. Your meal will be prepared based on clinical dietary guidelines. Make sure to discuss any additional dietary requests with a nursing team member. If you have any concerns or issues, our Dietary Director can be contacted directly at 225.258.5928.
Guests trays can also be purchased and delivered with patient meals. Ask a member of your nursing team to assist with ordering and payment. In addition, our Dining Room is open for guests during normal business hours. Guest are invited to dine with us for breakfast M, W and F 7am-9am or for lunch M-F 11am to 1pm. Selection and price will vary. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted.
Coffee for patient families and visitors is provided in the Dining Room until approximately 5pm.
Visiting hours are from 6:00 am to 9:00 pm. Visitors should enter through the main hospital entrance and check-in at the nurses’ station. We encourage visitors to return home at night (if possible) to allow patients to rest.
Mail & Deliveries
Mail sent during your stay should be addressed to your name and room number, St. James Parish Hospital, 1645 Lutcher Avenue, Lutcher, LA 70071. Flowers and cards sent to you will be delivered daily. CLICK HERE to send an E-card.
Our hospital has a beautiful healing garden for patients and family members that offers a serene, outdoor space for meditating, reading, praying or relaxing. In addition, our quaint chapel is located near the hospital lobby next to the cashier window. When available, we provide personal bibles as requested by patients. In addition, we work with members of local clergy to offer spiritual services. Let your nurse know if you want to participate.
Telephone, Television & Internet
Dial “9” on your room phone to call a local, outside line. To make a long distance call, dial “0” for assistance. Long distance calls must be collect or billed to a personal phone.
We offer free WIFI labeled as SJPH_GUEST.
Your room has basic cable (see channels below). A nurse team member can provide a printed copy of our channel directory. When watching TV, please be mindful of those around you and adjust the volume so it will not disturb other patients.
