Accommodations

St. James Parish Hospital is a 25-bed, critical access hospital. Each of our rooms offer a private suite for patients. Five of these rooms, located in our Progressive Care Unit, have the technology and design necessary to accommodate higher acuity patients.

We will make every effort to honor your preference in room assignment; however, assignments are also determined by factors such as your doctor’s orders, type of care you need and room availability. Each room is designed to provide you with a pleasant, safe and healthy environment during your stay. Controls for calling your nurse are nearby, easy to reach and all patient bathrooms have emergency call buttons.

Dining & Housekeeping Services

Guest trays can be purchased for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner. Please check with the cashier in the business office for this service. The nursing staff can assist you when the business office is closed. Guest meals are served with patient meals at 7:30am (breakfast), 11:30am (lunch) and 4:30pm (dinner). You are also welcome to dine with us. The Dining Room is open for lunch every weekday from 11:00am to 1:00pm and for breakfast on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:00am to 8:15am. The prices for meals vary depending on your selection. Patients can dial “0” or let their nurse know if they have any special dietary requests or restrictions.

The cleanliness of your room is very important to us. Our friendly housekeeping staff will be in daily to clean your room and change your linens. If your room needs immediate attention, please call 225.869.5512 extension 4603 or 2973.

Visiting Hours, Chapel Information & Newspaper Service

Visiting hours are from 6:00am to 9:00pm. As a safety precaution, our main doors are locked to incomers at 8:00pm. Our chapel is open 24/7 for your convenience and is located adjacent to the front lobby near the cashier window. Several complimentary newspapers are delivered to our lobby. Please ask our staff to assist in rotating copies to your room.

Patient Satisfaction, Safety & Quality

We welcome your feedback and encourage you to “speak up” if you have any concerns in regard to your care. As an inpatient, you can do this during weekly meetings we plan with you, your family members, physicians and caregivers or after you are discharged through a survey that is mailed to your home from an independent company. Outpatients, ER Patients and Surgery Patients are randomly surveyed by the same company through a toll-free phone call. 

Your safety is our goal so remember to use your call light when you need to get up for any reason and “speak up” if your nurse doesn’t hand wash in and out of your room. We take our mission to provide excellent and quality care seriously by constantly monitoring satisfaction, safety and quality in order to create initiatives that lead to ongoing improvements throughout our hospital. 

St. James Parish Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission (TJC) on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations-an independent, not-for-profit, national body that oversees the safety and quality of health care and other services. If any person has concerns about patient care or safety in the hospital that was not addressed while visiting, please notify Hospital Administration at 225.258.5990.The Joint Commission encourages you to first bring your complaint regarding patient care or safety to the attention of hospital leaders.

Telephone & Internet Access

Each room has a private telephone. Dial 9 before local numbers to get an outside line. Calls made within our area code are not long distance. Long distance calls must be collect or billed to your home or business phone. The switchboard operator will place long distance calls. Dial “0” if you need this assistance.

In addition, St. James Parish Hospital offers complimentary Internet access to patients and families. While in the hospital, visitors can simply connect to the network labeled “Guest.” No password is required.

Television Services & Channel Guide

Flat-screen televisions are provided in each room and include basic Cox Cable channels. Please be mindful of those around you and adjust the volume so it will not disturb other patients.
