« ReturnBack Up and Even Better
St. James Parish Hospital offers a specialized Orthopedic Rehab Program for patients undergoing shoulder scopes, knee scopes, hip replacements, and knee replacements. St. James Parish Hospital’s Therapy and Rehab Team not only assists patients with therapy after surgery, but we are also here to help you prepare for surgery.
Our dynamic and highly experienced team is lead by our Director of Orthopedic Rehabilitation.
What to Expect
Depending on your condition and doctor’s orders, a physical and/or occupational therapist may see you hours after surgery to help you start moving, practice using any medical equipment you may need and to train you how to safely complete activities of daily living during recovery.
Some patients may need a higher level of care such as Skilled Rehab before returning home from surgery, while other patients will be discharged home with a plan for outpatient therapy.
Outpatient therapy at this point will focus on helping you get stronger, balance better, and move easier. Typically, patients who have had a total hip or knee replacement graduate from outpatient therapy in 6 to 8 weeks.
